Attorney Gary B. Blasingame is a founding member of Blasingame, Burch, Garrard and Ashley, P.C. and now serves as of counsel for the firm. He provides valuable legal insight and assistance with a variety of cases, from medical malpractice to product liability and everything in between. Over the course of his decades-long legal career, he built a reputation as a formidable trial lawyer, obtaining extensive recognition from his peers and from a number of national organizations along the way.
Gary was born in Monroe, Georgia on April 26, 1937. He attended public schools in Monroe, graduating from high school in 1955. He attended undergraduate and law school at the University of Georgia, graduating with an L.L.B. degree in 1961. Following graduation, he clerked for the Honorable Gus Bootle, United States District Judge for the Middle District of Georgia, and thereafter served as an assistant United States attorney for the Middle District in Macon, Georgia from 1963 to 1965. He also served 13 years in the United States Army Reserve and Georgia National Guard.
Gary practiced law in Monroe, Georgia for a short time before moving his family to Athens and serving as an assistant professor at the University of Georgia School of law. In 1968, he returned to the private practice of law and continued in that practice until his retirement in 2016. He continues to serve as of counsel to the firm to this day.
Gary is a trial lawyer, and his practice has been focused on litigation throughout his career. His areas of particular interest include plaintiffs’ medical malpractice and medical device product liability cases. Over the course of his career, he has tried many cases to verdict. He has received the highest peer rating possible, an AV® Rating by Martindale-Hubbell®, based on his commitment to high legal and ethical standards.
Gary is a founding member of BBGA, and served as its managing shareholder for the first 20 years of its existence.
He has also been involved in the governance of the State Bar of Georgia. Gary spent many years serving the legal community as a part of its governing organization. He has also had a keen interest in the University of Georgia School of Law. In 2017, Blasingame, Burch, Garrard & Ashley, P.C. honored him by establishing a scholarship in his name at the school.
Gary’s interests outside of law include rhythm and blues music, woodworking, and aviation. He is an instrument-rated pilot and avid woodworker. When not in his shop, he enjoys boating on Lake Hartwell, traveling, and spending time with his wife, children, and grandchildren.
